FalconView (#1) - FAA sectional and terminal charts (#534) - Message List
As far as I can tell, the downloadable FAA vfr sectional and terminal charts supposedly in geotiff format no longer work as registered files in GeoRect? or Falconview, as of 22 December. (Merry Christmas from the FAA?)

Digital-Visual Charts
December 22, 2011 Digital-Visual Charts (d-VC) are now being created using ArcMap? 10. This software upgrade affects the way TIFF tags are written. See the Safety Alert (PDF) for complete information.

Thanks for the heads up. I have heard that the aviation community is in an uproar about the FAA/NACO taking away data, though I'm not sure if this is related.
Can you attach a sample file to this discussion and I'll see what I can do with it?

Download any file created after 22Dec2012 such as Wichita, and unzip,use either the North or South .tif file. In GeoRect? they will show x & y but not lat lon.

Users that have established automated processes to read these TIFF tags may need to make minor adjustments to accommodate for these differences. Please be aware that all GeoTIFF information is stored in the following TIFF tags: ModelPixelScaleTag? (Tag Code 33550) ModelTiepointTag? (Tag Code 33922) GeoKeyDirectoryTag? (Tag Code 34735) GeoDoubleParamsTag? (Tag Code 34736) GeoAsciiParamsTag? (Tag Code 34737) Please see the following website for reference: http://www.remotesensing.org/geotiff/spec/geotiffhome.html Please note the following changes: The following tags are no longer provided: Orientation (Tag Code 274) XResolution (Tag Code 282) YREsolution (Tag Code 283) ResolutionUnit? You're right: they broke this when they went to Arc 10. I was able to view the sectional in FalconView. Since there are grid lines on the map, I was able to georectify the image in GeoRect and then add it to FalconView. I'll attach a screen capture to this discussion.

I couldn't add the attachment, so you can find it at the link below. Do you know of any contact information for NACO/FAA so that I can let them know that their product may be broken?
