FalconView (#1) - Installing ONLY FalconView without SQl Server Components? (#593) - Message List
Since I ONLY want to use the Moving Map feature on FalconView, without GPS connected, meaning in Simulation Mode, can I skip installing the SQL Server components?
Thanks.

SQL Server is required for FalconView to run. We are talking about removing this constraint from future versions.

That would GREAT!!!!! And the even the ZIP compressed file takes up huge amount of space. So removing the SQL requirements would be nice.
Do you think the SQL setup files will be removed in the 5.1 version?
I would really like to install ONLY the FalconView setup and use the Moving Map feature and nothing else.
Thanks.

I have a somewhat different question. I already have SQL Server Express 2008 R2 installed with viable databases. Is there a way to install FalconView alongside and then configure the existing install of SQL Server for use by FalconView? With the 4.2.1.1135 installer, there is no option to not install SQL Express.
Thanks, James

If you already have an instance available you can just skip the SQL Express part of the install by running FalconView\setup.exe.
If the instance name is something other than FV_SQL_SERVER you will need to change it by modifying the server name in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MissionPlanning? registry key.

There is not a supported option to do this (though I expect that you could hack it to work).
